I watched a very strange interview this week. It was from the 1970’s and was an amazing little bit. The person being interviewed was Peter Sellers. The interviewer was Kermit the Frog. A master impressionist and comic genius was being interviewed by a puppet. The puppet said, “Just relax and be yourself.” Sellers responded, “I can’t be myself, because I don’t know who I really am anymore.” Peter Sellers life could be summed up in a Smokey Robinson song: “Ain’t too much sadder than the tears of a clown when there’s no one around…. I’m hurt and I want you to know, but for others I put on a show.” Hopefully those words aren’t your story too.
This week work toward authentic relationships with those who matter in your life. Remember: to try to be someone else is to waste the person you were created to be.
