DURING WORSHIP THIS MORNING we are celebrating the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. All who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are members of Christ’s household and are invited to commune. Gluten free bread will be offered. Elders and Deacons serving Communion are Kelley Poydence, Cindy Smith (8:30) and Scott & Sue Cherry, Joseph & Ann Helou, and David Miller (10:45). Communion will be served later today to our homebound members by Debbie Bianco.
THE ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL class will return from a summer vacation on Sunday, Sept. 24th with a new study.
THE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BIBLE STUDY GROUP will meet this Wednesday, August 9th at 1:00 p.m. in the Banner Room. Please join us for this wonderful time of reflection on God’s Word.
THE MISSION COMMITTEE will meet this Wednesday, August 9th at 6:30 p.m. in the Banner Room. Please plan to join us as we prepare for the upcoming Back to School Supply Distribution on Saturday, August 12th.
CHANCEL CHOIR rehearsals will resume Wednesday, August 9th. Thank you to the talented individuals and groups who provided our worship music while the choir was on vacation.
THE HOPE FOR THE HOMEBOUND program signup sheets are in the hallway for those who wish to help pick up meals from Metrocrest Services on Saturdays for this outreach. Our next pickup will be this Saturday, August 12th.
OUR BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DISTRIBUTION is this Saturday, August 12th. We will be preparing backpacks this next week, and will continue to accept school supplies in preparation for the event. Please see Gayla McCown or John Reas if you are interested in helping out.
THE NEXT WORSHIP & MUSIC committee meeting will be held on Sunday, August 13th immediately after the 10:45 a.m. service.
A HUGE SHOUT OUT goes to Gayla & Mac McCown, Connie, Megan and Austin Stovall, Lynne Hines, James Gunaseelan and Dave McKenas for all their help making this year’s Sack Summer Hunger Program successful. With their help and the weekly harvest of fresh produce from The Nor’kirk’s Grow and Share Community Garden, The Nor’kirk made a significant difference to the health and wellbeing of over 30 families including 70 children this past summer. The love and compassion that The Nor’kirk Presbyterian continues to show to those in our community is a continued inspiration for all of us.
ENJOY A CUP! We have added a self-serve coffee maker to The Nor’kirk Cafe. Come enjoy a cup of your favorite “joe” with your friends. If you have extra coffee pods, please consider sharing them with our church cafe.
WILL YOU SERVE AS HOST? Volunteers are needed each week to serve a light snack after the 10:45 a.m. service for our “Stay Just a Little Bit Longer” program. There is a sign-up sheet in the hallway.
40TH ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY is Sunday, September 17th. We will have one special worship service that day, at 10:45 a.m. and then we will enjoy a catered lunch and program immediately following – $8 per person and $4 for kids under 6 yrs. We will collect $$ as it gets closer to the event. Plan to wear your 40th Anniversary t-shirt that day too. We ordered a few extra, so if you didn’t get one contact the church office below. “KALCULATORS FOR KIDS”: Grady Spruce High School, in South Dallas, has a high student/family poverty level. The school needs calculators for the Economics classes in the fall. Please place your donations of working old or new calculators in the box in the Narthex.
PLEASE SHARE with those in need the food supplies from our pantry. The Sharing Closet in the Narthex has canned goods and non-perishable food.
